Pompona vanilla, also called vanillon or banana vanilla because of the impressive size of its pods, which can reach 30cm, is grown in Madagascar and is a very rare variety of vanilla because of its low yield. Although it contains a lesser amount of vanillin compared to its cousins, it is highly sought after in the perfumery and distillery industry due to its sweet almond, tobacco and coumarin notes.
